Star Jelly On Dartmoor

Star Jelly on Dartmoor

Whilst walking across Taw Marsh yesterday I happened upon this mysterious jelly-like substance. There were several similar-sized clumps lying around within a ten-foot radius with no indication as to the source.

As soon as I got home I looked it up on Google and discovered that it is commonly referred to as “Star Jelly“. According to Wikipedia, folklore suggests that this gelatinous goo falls to Earth during Meteor Showers! However, it is far more likely to be the remains of a frog, or toad, which has been eaten – or maybe even some kind of slime mould.
