Widgery Cross, Dartmoor

Widgery Cross, Dartmoor

Photograph Notes:

This granite cross was erected, on Brat Tor, by William Widgery to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887. Widgery Cross is the tallest cross on Dartmoor and unlike the other stone crosses which are hewn from a single slab of granite, Widgery Cross is constructed from granite blocks. The cross is easily reached from the car park adjacent to the Dartmoor Inn or the car park at the Fox and Hounds (follow the A386 from Okehampton towards Tavistock).
